THE WINSIGHT® PROGRAM

A MULTI-STAGE ADAPTIVE APPROACH

Winsight uses an approach called multi-stage adaptive testing that seeks to bridge the gap between a fixed-form assessment and a highly-complex item-adaptive model.

In multi-stage testing, item sets are fixed, but students are routed to the item set appropriate to their ability level based on an initial set of questions. This approach leads to an ideal blend of control and adaptability that helps both states and students win.

BENEFITS OF MULTI-STAGE TESTING

  • Reduced student frustration

  • Adapts to student’s level

  • Greater control of test content

  • More meaningful data

THE COMPONENTS OF THE PROGRAM

Each component of the program serves a specific function and fulfills the needs of certain stakeholders. Discover the components of the Winsight program.

CLASSROOM SUITE DEVELOPMENT, BENCHMARK ASSESSMENTS and SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS.

SUMMATIVE

The summative assessment can be administered at the end of the year to gauge student progress against state standards for accountability purposes. Results can help inform decisions about resource allocation, curriculum, professional development, and state policy, and provide a starting point for teacher planning for next year’s students.

BENCHMARK

Benchmark assessments can be given periodically throughout the school year and help students develop familiarity with what they will see on the summative assessment. At the beginning of the school year, such assessments can give teachers an early read on their students. In the middle, they can help gauge how students are likely to perform on the summative assessment. At the end, they can inform summer learning plans and next year’s curriculum decisions.

FORTHCOMING CLASSROOM SUITE

We recognize that even more needs to be done to connect performance on summative assessments to what happens at the day-to-day classroom level. We know that solving this challenge will take a mix of input from all stakeholders. We also recognize that every state has unique needs. This is why an important initiative within the Winsight program is the development of classroom tools in partnership with states and their educators.
